We were up and raising our anchor before sunrise. It was 7:50(Alaimo time) by the time we were leaving the anchorage. All the other boats in the fleet still had their anchor lights on and no movement could be seen onboard their boats.

We had an uneventful evening last night. It was blowing, but it wasn't as windy as it's been the last 24 hours. Last night, while Matt was pouring gasoline Into the generator, I looked into the generator's fuel tank and saw small pieces of grit. It looked like the same grit that Matt keeps finding in the dinghy engine carburetor. It appears that the source of the dinghy engine problems is dirty fuel that has contaminated our portable gas tanks. When we get home, Matt plans to thoroughly clean them out. We had a very pleasant night. The waters were still. We awoke at 8:00 (Alaimo Time) and had breakfast while we read the newspaper and checked the weather. The weather forecast for the rest of the week doesn't look that great. Matt and I plan to work our way down the ICW, stopping at the protected anchorages of Englewood Beach and the Hurricane hole . Then when the winds switch to the south, we'll head up the harbor (which looks like this weekend). We were awoken by the sounds of the"uh-oh" birds roosting on Blue Moon's bow. By 8:00(Alaimo time), we were picking up the anchor. We checked the weather forecast for this week. The front is still coming throughon Tuesday evening, but now they are predicting 20 kts of wind through Friday. Matt and I decided that we would prefer to be in the protected ICW and moving as little as possible if the winds were 20kts. So, we changed today's destination to Cortez/Bradenton Beach . That will have us crossing the Tampa Bay today. Even though it was about 11nm further, we thought it was the best option for us. Tomorrow, we want to be south of Sarasota Bay which is rather large and will kick up in 20 kts. Last night, we fell asleep to the sounds of the jazz music and the fireworks from shore. We slept for 10 hours. We were awake by 7:15(Alaimo time) . For breakfast, Matt and I shared a cinnamon roll that we had purchased from Rodies yesterday. It was so good. Matt and I were up and on our way to breakfast by 9:00 (Alaimo time). We rode our bikes down the Pinellas Bike Trail to Rodies restaurant. When we lived here 20 years ago, Rodies was my favorite breakfast spot. The food is still as good as I remember. Matt and I slept well last night. The winds had stopped. We were surprised that we didn't have any no see-ums since it was so still, but weren't not complaining. The wind was roaring for most of the night. We awoke at 7:50 (Alaimo Time) and had a light breakfast while we read the newspaper on the internet. |
